Just about any merchant that accepts check payments can benefit from this free service - and any merchant, regardless of whether they have obtained other services through us, is eligible to enroll.
This service is called Check Chase Online. It is an automated, cloud-based, returned check collections solution. No software installation, maintenance, or routine administration is required, however, complete control and manual intervention for special circumstances is possible and online reporting is included. Here's how it works:
The merchant enrolls in the service by completing the online enrollment form linked here.
The merchant assigns Check Chase Online as the payee's (merchant's) RCK collections agent.
When checks are returned due to insufficient funds in the check writer's bank account (NSF), the check is forwarded to Check Chase Online.
Check Chase Online will separate the returns that are eligible for electronic check collection (RCK) from those that are not.
Check Chase Online will automatically re-present the eligible returns through the ACH network and forward only the ineligible items to the secondary collection method specified by the merchant.
100% of the face value of successfully settled checks is automatically deposited into the merchant's bank account. The merchant also receives 40% of the state authorized NSF collection fees - a bonus!
The balance of the NSF collection fee is retained by Check Chase Online as payment for the collection service.
The merchant receives an automated email notification when any check has successfully settled.
Other considerations:
The merchant can override the RCK re-presentment for any specific checks. This is useful when the merchant knows the check writer and does not want them to bear the additional state-authorized NSF collection fee, or if the debt has been settled in an alternate manner. In such circumstances, the check is returned to the merchant for internal handling.
The merchant can alter the default re-presentment time period or override this time for any specific check.
Rather than charging check writers the state-authorized NSF collection fee (which funds the Check Chase Online service), the merchant may elect to sacrifice $2.00 from the proceeds of each settled check. This is a sensible option for organizations that receive checks from donors who could be disenchanted with paying an NSF collection fee.
In some states, bank fees incurred by payees for returned checks may be recovered from the check writer by including this amount in the collected total.
Check Chase Online can seamlessly integrate with Remote Check Deposit (Remote Deposit Capture) and other check conversion services to eliminate potential bank fees for returned checks.
The automatic Check Chase Online system electronically re-presents eligible returns and credits paid items to the payee's bank account. Items that do not qualify for electronic re-presentment can be recovered by our affiliates, or returned to you for internal handling.
